Last night was the first night of community outreach! Wednesday is a busy day here in Kona, we have a cruise ship stop right in front of our bay and unload and load passengers for the next 8-10 hours. The water is too shallow around this area so there are little ferry boats that transport people. This being said, it's the perfect opportunity to reach out and talk with both tourists and residents of Kona.
Eventually at some point during the DTS, community outreach will mean going to a Marshallese community center and helping out by serving food and playing with the kids every Wednesday. But since we are just arriving and the planning hasn't gone as planned we decided we were going to do street evangelism!!
We split off into 2 groups, one group would stay behind and intercede while the other group would go out and evangelize. Whenever the group praying would get a word they would text it to us out on the street and we would look for whoever the word was for. Some words were very specific, like Mike/Michael from Switzerland, and a girl named Claire with a green shirt and blonde hair (these are real words we received); and others not so much, like someone in a red shirt. We would do our best to find someone matching the words we had received.
The night went on and we had gotten about 15-20 words but hardly any luck finding anybody that matched the words we had gotten. Most of the people we did interact with had already accepted Jesus as Lord. We stayed out faithfully looking but had a hard time finding.
Back at base while the team was praying two girls thought they saw a blonde girl in a green shirt at the restaurant next door! So they ran out to meet her and the lady was scared off and had told them her shirt was yellow. So they turned around and started to head back to base when they saw a lady that was sitting on the bench near the base.
They went over and approached her and asked her if she knew Jesus and she said she was a Jehovah's Witness and that she didn't want to talk with them. The girls kept talking asking the lady if she needed prayer and she said she didn't want any religion that doesn't believe in Jehovah to pray for her and one of the girls said "We believe in Jehovah too!" And the lady was kind of shocked and she let them pray for her. After they prayed she turned and told them, "You guys are an answer to prayer!! I was here to meet a man and I know it was wrong. Thank you! You're an answer to prayer!" And she ran off. They went back and continued praying and slowly everyone that was evangelizing came back.
Everyone felt excitement and joy and a stirring in their hearts! Although we didn't see anything happen out on the streets God was stirring up in our hearts a passion! It felt like we were training for the next time. Everyone is excited and stirred up and we know God is going to do great things!
So join us in prayer, extra prayer on Wednesday, that the Lord will use us to move in the hearts of people on the streets in Kona!!
