This story takes place about a month after HBCU at Indian University! It was our third and final leg of tour and it was towards the end of it so we were all ready to head home in a few days. At IU once a year they have a bike race called the Little 500 and it’s a crazy crazy party scene that our whole team got to roll up to!
We weren’t really sure what we were gonna do so we decided to buy a bunch of waters and take them to parties and just hand out water and tell people that Jesus loves them. We got in our van with a bunch of water bottles and started driving around and came across this party that was a pretty decent size!
There were like 5 people playing beer pong with buckets! Not the Red SOLO cups, but freaking 5 gallon buckets! We run up to the party and just start giving out water and loving on people going from person to person encouraging them and telling them that Jesus loved them so much and cared about them! We did this at 3 parties and it was so amazing! Everyone was drunk out of their minds but you could tell they were touched by what we had said.
The last party we went to was at this house and there were at least 150-200 people there and they were having her son tournaments and everyone was going nuts. Me and my friend Ben decided to walk straight into the house and just kick it with the people there. We were only at the party for like 10-15 minutes cause it got pretty wild so we left, but in the time we were there we got to blitz to a bunch of people and tell them Jesus loves them so much.
Afterwards, we took the whole team into town and we just loved on everyone in the streets. Me and Ben started walking around past the downtown area cause we were trying to get into parties but we couldn’t find any haha! We ended up turning down this road and started walking back to the van to head home and in the alley, there were lights and a small camera crew so we walked up to see what was happening. Turns out they were just shooting a music video, but we stuck around and watched for a little bit. As we were watching we noticed that one of the dudes was limping so we decided to wait until we could get a second and pray for the dude.
They wrap up filming and we ask what is wrong with his leg and he tells us that he has some sciatic nerve damage or something like that and that it hurts to move his leg. So we asked him if we could pray for him and he said why not? After we prayed for him we asked him if he felt anything, and he said It felt like electricity ran down his back and leg and that there was no more pain! We told him how much Jesus loved him and that He had just healed him! We got to pray for him again and then we had to run back to the van to leave! I left at 6am the next morning haha!
Tour was such an epic 4 months and there are so many stores I would love to tell but I don’t have time to write them all out cause I’m busy making new stories! I’m so thankful that I get to live the life I live and I’m so thankful for all of your support and prayers! Come back soon for some wild wild wild stories about my time in Prague!!
Shortly after the last night in Michigan, I was on a flight to Atlanta to join our HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) tour. It was definitely one of my favorite tours, mainly cause of all the BBQ that we had haha! It was so tasty!
We traveled to Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Washington D.C. and went to FAMU, Jackson St, Tuskegee, and Howard U! On every campus, we had amazing interactions with students who were hungry for God! The main thing we did on campus was a segment called “The couch.”
What it was is a time for us to interview students on camera and just ask them some very basic questions and then some super deep ones. At one of our schools we got an actual couch, but at all the other ones we just did interviews standing up haha! My friend John Howard was doing the interviews and he came up with a question “If Jesus was a black man in present day America, how would he react to everything that is going on?” It was a tough question and he always asked this at the end and it caused everyone to really think. The question was a bridge for John to ask them if they knew Jesus and if they wanted to know him.
It was our very first HBCU tour and it was so successful and fun! Our worship nights were a little smaller but the impact was tremendous! This one isn’t really a story haha, more just an informative deal on what happened! It was so amazing!
Hey guys! Well sorry again for a crazy break in between stories haha! I left last month and went to Prague and then Hawaii so I was pretty busy! I’ll put some of those stories up as well a little later. But to continue with the T O U R SERIES I wanna tell you guys about our time in Michigan!
We have a friend in Michigan named Micah. He has the coolest youth group and him and his team do things with the students all week long! They have one main meet up/youth gathering a month but throughout the month, every week, they meet in small groups and will play basketball, or have a bible study, etc. It’s really a pretty sweet set up that he’s got going!
He and his dad have lived in St Joseph, MI for their whole lives and because of that, they have so many connections into schools all over St Joe and Benton Harbor area. We called him up before tour and asked him if he could get us into schools and he said “Yup!” Micah was able to get us into 6 schools!!! All public schools! We hit up the 6 schools in 3 days and 2,000+ people saw the assembly! It was so wild and the turnout was amazing! At the end pf our assemblies we would promote the monthly gathering at the church called Renegaid. So we kept announcing it and inviting everyone to come to it because we weren’t able to do follow up at the schools.
350 students showed up to Rengaid that night and Micah gave a wild word that totally landed and kids were encountering God in new ways! At the end of the night, he did a call to see if anyone wanted to be baptized and a big group of people came to the front. We moved to the other room where the little pool was at and 35 kids got baptized!! It was such an epic end to our high school tour! Every single one of us was in awe of what God had done the final night of high school tour!
What’s up! Thanks for tracking with me the last few weeks! Sorry about the delay! My family was in town and it was so nice to be able to see them again! I’m so stoked to tell you guys this story!
For this story we have to fast forward a few weeks to when we were in Houston! Now Houston was special to me because I used to live there for about a year and I was excited to be back!
The school we were at was called RMA, I don’t remember what the initials stand for haha but I know that those were the initials. This school was interesting because it was a public school in the Houston school district but the school building was owned by a church. It was considered a second chance school for the kids that dropped out or got expelled and etc. The youth pastor from the church was always in the building with some of his staff and they were always pouring into students there and Houston ISD stayed out of it, in fact they sometimes even encouraged it!
So we show up at the school and set up for our assembly and Chip and Cortney (Our fearless leaders, Amy was also a leader) went and talked to the principal to see what kind of freedom we had since it was a public school. The principal looked at them and said, “You guys do whatever you feel led to do.” W I L D!! That sentence gave us freedom to preach the gospel at a public school!! We started the assembly and they usually ran about 45 minutes but sometimes it would go longer if Faith, Amy, Chandler or Jon Jon went a little long on testimonies. This was the first time we had an issue with time and the bell rang during our assemblies as Chandler was speaking. Almost half the room got up and left and didn’t even look back but while half left half stayed and all of them that stayed were totally focused 1000% on what Chandler was saying. She passed the mic to Jon Jon and he does an altar call and nearly everyone that stayed accepted christ for the first time or recommitted! At. A. public. School. Salvation and healing broke out at a public school!
After the assembly we invited them back to the youth group that night and about 70 of them showed up on top of the students that were already regulars at the youth group. Our guy named Sammy was preaching that night and at the end of the night he made a call for salvations and healing and there was a guy that was kind of messing around and came on stage and extended his arms out towards the crowd mock praying for them. Long story short Sammy takes the guy into a side room and starts praying for him when all of a sudden he starts manifesting! He starts convulsing and his eyes roll to the back of his head! That night Sammy, Jesse and another guy prayed for him and breaking off all ties the devil had over him and he was delivered of the demon in him! Later he told us his parents had been involved in Sex Trafficking and he wanted out of it and all the crap that comes with it!!! It was freaking nuts! The dude was delivered, he accepted Christ, and got help to get out of the Sex trade industry!!
You thought this story was over… NOT YET!! To make things even crazier a girl on our team named Angel has a heart for the sex trafficking industry and seeing it come to an end. She had a dream 3 years ago that in Houston we would see males delivered and set free from the sex trade industry and it would be done by having a group of Godly men praying for him. And that night 3 circuit Rider men prayed for this dude! After it all happened God reminded Angel of the dream she had and she broke down in tears! 3 years earlier God spoke to her about this specific moment!
Let’s pick up where we left off! 50 kids just got saved and the doors opened for us to go to different schools and youth groups all around Orlando!
So this connection I’m not totally sure how we got but I know that however it happened was definitely God ordained. This next story starts at a youth group called K Life.
K Life had three different groups that would meet at their garage. We were able to hang out with some elementary aged kids and play games with them, then was the middle schoolers and finally it was the high schoolers. We did our assembly for the high schoolers but the response was almost non existent haha! From the outside it looked like nothing had happened and that the night flopped. It even seemed like a total failure to me!
After the event had ended we went and got some burgers with the guys from K Life youth group. I got food poising from it and it had me regretting ever going there haha but thats not the story!
Everyone ordered and went and sat down and just started talking with each other and this is where the story starts. A girl from this school called The First Academy had heard Jon Jon speak at her school before and for the last year she had been trying to get Jon Jon and the Circuit Riders to come back to her school! She had no idea we were in town until we showed up at her youth group!
She was beyond stoked and kept asking if we would be able to come to her school while we were in town. That night she texted her teacher and asked if we’d be able to use a room and shortly after we got a reply and the teacher said yes! So we planned to go and just spend lunch with them!
We show up at the school and start walking to the class expecting there to be about 10-15 people there and we walk into the class and there are 60 people all waiting for us! The class was packed! All the desks were taken and kids were standing everywhere with almost no space left in the class!
A few of our guys started sharing on the message of faith and how we need to step out in faith and pray for people! He shared story after story about how God used him to pray for people and they were encountered!
A student in the class was so stirred and wanted to see God move right away haha! So he stood up and said “You guys are talking about healing and all this so why don’t we pray for the people that are sick in the class!” There were at least like 10 people that were in braces for knees or wrists or something like that. So all the students started huddling around their friends praying for each other and God moved so wildly! Everyone left healed and empowered to pray for each other! The whole time the teacher was in back of the class bawling her eyes out saying she’s never seen students pray for each other before!
60 kids!! They told us after we had finished there that even with weeks and weeks of promoting they only get at most like 20-30 people to show up, but with only one day of promoting it 60 people showed up and all encountered God!!! It was probably one of the tour highlights for every single on of us!
Stay tuned for Part III. It keeps getting better and better!
I can’t believe all that has happened since September 28 haha! It’s been so hard for me to just sit down and write about everything that I’ve been doing! I figured I should set some time aside and start telling you guys a few stories of all that God has done in these last 8 months!
So yeah, pretty well known fact I moved to Huntington Beach, California and started rolling with the Circuit Rider crew. I was part of the high school tour team as well as a few other but I’ll get into more detail about that later. I have 6 different stories that I want to share so I plan on this being a 6 week series of tour stories about all God has done!
The first story I want to tell is one for the ages! Travel back with me to January of this year, when 9 people crammed into 2 cars and drove 2,500 miles to our first tour stop. We met the rest of our team in Alabama on the way to Orlando and 9 became 22. After four looooong days of driving we finally made it to Orlando on Friday night and were excited for our very first ever high school tour stop the next morning!
Saturday morning rolls around, everyone is sleepy and exhausted from all the traveling. On top of that we haven’t ever performed our assembly before so if you’ve ever been in drama or any kind of musical performance you know that we were already set up for doom.
Our first tour stop was at a place called Orlando Children’s Church (OCC). They were basically a ministry that drove about 20 school busses all over inner city Orlando picking up kids and bringing them to church! OCC has been around for about 15 years and now they’re picking up about 400-500 kids every Saturday! They bring them to church and give them breakfast, play games with all of them and then rally them all together and give a short bible lesson.
That Saturday we had been asked to take over their bible lesson time. We arrived at like 7am and started set up right away! Everyone was super excited so set up was probably the fastest. Afterwards we got to go hang out with some of the kids and play basketball and soccer with some them. Finally it was time for the very first high school assembly.
They start sending all the middle school and high school kids to the sanctuary. One second the room was empty and then I blinked and there were 300 people all piling in the pews of the church we were using. It was finally time for the assembly!
The message of our assembly called ‘FREEDOM’ deals with 4 specific topics. COMPARISON takes away the joy of the uniqueness. SHAME uses our mistakes against us. SECLUSION robs us from knowing our value. REJECTION says we’re unwanted. When students are wrapped up and distracted by these things, its difficult to see them give their education the focus and energy it deserves. Each of the cast members highlight the specific topic and bring resolution through personal success in how they were able to overcome. We want nothing to stand in the way for students to believe in their dreams, and hope in their future.
The assembly literally went so smoothly that it seemed like we had been doing it for years! The kids responded to every skit and song that was presented and at the end Jon Jon (far left in the pic) gave an altar call. The room went silent as Jon Jon poured his heart out preaching the gospel. He called it once, then he called it again and not one, not 10, but 50 kids responded to the gospel!
You should’ve seen the faces of every person on our team! Our jaws had hit the floor and we could hardly believe it! When we had arrived in Florida we had no idea what our tour was gonna look like. Orlando Children’s Church was our one and only planned event for the two weeks that we were supposed to be in Orlando. We were completely relying on God for our assembly and in that moment of our first event God was showing all of us that the plans he had for high school tour were about to blow all our minds!
And that it did! At OCC that week were teachers from different schools around Orlando and pastors from different youth groups around Orlando. We went from having one event to having so many events that most of our time in Florida we were waking up at 6am and getting to bed at like 1!
God opened so many doors and it was because we were faithful to the one event we had haha! 50 salvations at our firsts stop!! And our story is literally just beginning! Stay tuned for Part II. Probably around the same time next week!
I was sitting in bed looking through photos and videos on my phone of all the things I did on outreach and it just makes me so happy! I'm so thankful for the 2 months that I got to spend in PNG!! I'm so sorry it took me so long to write about outreach but so many things have happened! Not even 24 hours after graduating from DTS I was on a plane to LAX to start with an awesome group called Circuit Riders!
Well, I don't even know where to start! So I'll just start from the beginning...
We left Kona and headed over to Papua New Guinea on July 29th and it took us 20 hours of flights, and 40 hours of airport sleeping and struggles to finally arrive! We arrived and were picked up by our beloved ship manager John Mark, and our contact, Papa Lewis, and taken straight to the ship. The very next day, we hadn't even been in PNG for 24 hours, we were told we were taking over a full church service at Gospel Lighthouse! It was such a great start to outreach! Most everyone shared and then we had an alter call at the end, which was super crazy, and awesome to see God move! It gave us all such a boost and preparedness for everything to come in the next few months!
We were on the ship for about a week before we actually sailed out to our first island of Long Island, and during that week we helped clean the ship as well as evangelize in the city of Madang. We later sailed out to Long Island, which was an 8 hour sail. 6 hours were smooth and the last 2 had me sitting right next to a bucket hoping I would stop at some point. It was definitely not the best way to end your first sailing experience! In Long Island I helped out with Dentistry and Optometry. I filled out the paperwork for the dentist and then watched him pull tooth after tooth out from the locals on the island. A few days later I switched over to Optometry and I helped test people's eyes! I was the one pointing at the black letters as they got smaller and smaller! It was such a blast!
We were in Long Island for 8 clinic days and we got to see amazing results! We had 227 optometry patients and we gave out 137 glasses; there was 40 dental patients with 60 tooth extraction, and 250 babies that got immunizations! There was a total of 730 Primary Health Care patients from everything like a cold to a shark bite. 31 eye surgeries were given, transforming the lives of many many people that had cataracts in their eyes and had been blind for at least 10 years. Overall, we got to help 1,277 people living in Long Island, that haven't seen a medical ship in as long as they can remember.
We made our way back to Madang and had an amazing week of street ministry and preparation for the next trip! We started our sail to Manam and it was one of the smoothest sails during our 2 months there. We had the wind at our backs and we were going at record speeds. What was supposed to be a 15 hour sail turned into a 10 hour sail.
In Manam we had the biggest medical outreach, for the Pacific Link, that year! We got to help about 3,706 people! 1,655 of them were Primary Health Care patients! Which is was the biggest number of PHC patients that we had seen up to that point! There were 93 dental patients that got 39 extractions and 10 restorations! We gave out 515 immunizations, and 414 reading glasses. We would test their eyesight by giving them a bible to read and we would test the different lenses until we found one that made the letters on the page clear.
On the more spiritual side of the things we got to see about 500 salvations on both islands! We saw God move mightily in healing of knee pain, and back pain. Blind eyes were opened and deaf ears could hear again! We were able to baptize 3 people that were wrecked with how Jesus had moved in their life while we were there!
It was such an amazing opportunity to be a part of this team and I want to thank everyone for your prayers and for all the financial support to help me get to PNG!
Hey everybody! I'm so sorry that it's been such a long time since my last post! A lot has happened but a lot of it has been a change in the way I see things!
For this story travel back in time with me to week 5 of my DTS (the 8th week just ended). It's Holy Spirit week and David Gava is the lecturer for that week. He was sharing on how Holy Spirit is a person and that He's relatable to us. Not some mystic force/energy that comes from God, rather a separate being in the God head. David Gava wanted us to get more intimate and comfortable with Holy Spirit . He wanted us to view Him as the being that He is. You wouldn't call your friend "the Robert" you would call him "Robert." So how come we call Holy Spirit, "the Holy Spirit?" Even changing what I called Holy Spirit has changed the way that I view him. I feel more intimate and close to him. But that's not the story I want to tell...
Towards the end of the week David Gava wanted us to practice hearing Holy Spirit, so he had us form 2 circles - an inner circle and an outer circle. He had the inner circle go first; they had 20 seconds to listen to Holy Spirit and tell us what He was saying. Then the inner circle shifted over two people, and the outer circle would hear from Holy Spirit for the new people in front of them. We did this a few times, and after each time I got more and more confident. I also knew we only had a few more minutes before we were released for lunch so I was a little excited.
Finally on the last "rotation" after we had a word for the people in front of us, he wanted us to pray for healing if the person needed healing. "Oh great," I thought. I wasn't comfortable doing this and I was getting a little upset that they went past the time, because I was getting hungry. So I asked the person in front of me if she needed any prayer for healing and she said yes. Again I thought "Oh great." I asked her what for and she wasn't able to explain in a lot of detail, all she said was that she needed alignment in her body. So I started praying and I felt like I was really getting into it and I was believing everything I said. I finished praying and I quickly left because we were dismissed for lunch.
Now lets flash forward to this week. Its Thursday night - May 2nd - and we are having our usual Thursday night Ohana court. The girl I had prayed for, in week 5, was sitting right behind me but I never noticed her until the end of the night. After Ohana court I turned around and she asked me if I remembered her and then she was reminding me of the day I prayed for her.
She went on to tell me that that night after I prayed for her, she was going to bed and she felt that everything had been aligned! She also said that it hasn't been misaligned since that night! I was so stoked to hear this!! It was 3 weeks late but I'm still so glad that she told me!
All I can say is "Go God!" I know that it wasn't because of what I said or because of the way I said it, but it was because God is so great and He's a healer! I cannot wait to tell you more stories about how God has used me for His glory!
Yesterday my roommate, Teddy, woke up at 5am with an excruciating pain on his leg! He reached down to feel what it was and felt a knot that was about twice the size of a baseball. He couldn't move and he was in extreme pain to the point of screaming! He finally started declaring "In the name of Jesus no more pain!' And he felt the knot shrink underneath his hand. He continued doing this until the knot was completely gone! At 5:30 he was so excited that he had declared the pain away that he turned on the lights and thought it was a good idea to start cleaning! Meanwhile I'm still sound asleep and having no clue what was going until I heard him start cleaning! He told me what had happened and we celebrated and then went on with our day.
This morning, I woke up and stretched my leg out and felt a terrible pain in my left leg that left me immobilized for about 30 seconds! I reached down to feel what it was, and sure enough, it was a knot about twice the size of a baseball! I'm thinking to myself "Are you kidding me? I'm already running late!" So I decided I would rest it for about 45 seconds and then just get up and continue my day. I rolled out of bed and limped over to the bathroom and got in the shower. As I got in I just heard myself saying, "There's nothing there, it's healed, it's gone," even though I was still in pain. As the words came out of my mouth I couldn't feel anymore pain and the knot was gone! It was such a weak attempt to get me out of my game, and I'm glad I didn't magnify this tiny little cramp and make it seem bigger than God.
Declaration activates the heart of God. We don't have to be loud, we don't have to make it happen or strive, because He hears us. He's listening, but at the same time, we don't have to be silent. We have a voice and we have promises and healing to declare over ourselves and others! He's a God that's moved to action by those who seek Him!
Thursday morning we were in intercession and what we were interceding for was a group/school called the Circuit Riders. Before we started praying we watched a short video of all that they do and what they believe as a ministry. As we started watching the video, I felt a stirring in my heart and it continued as we prayed and all the way until about 40 minutes into the lecture. I was talking with my one-on-one (Daniel) afterwards and we had scheduled a time to hang out.
Daniel and I sat down and we started talking and he told me that a phrase he had for me was "Carry the Love." Carry the Love is an initiative with the group Circuit Riders and they do nationwide campus revival tours. I was really excited and thought that maybe this was something I'm supposed to do after YWAM. So I prayed about it for a little and then went on with my day and kind of had it in the back of my mind. I wasn't sure if this was something that God wanted me to do or if it was just something that I was moved by. I know that I wanted to join staff and stay with YWAM for a while but I haven't gotten any sort of confirmation for it yet.
The next morning I woke up and I went online to check out the Carry the Love movement and they had some statistics on the page and I read through them and I was shocked as well as heart broken. I continued scrolling down and I saw that they had a short little video and I pressed play to watch it and I was blind sided! I started watching the video and, no joke, 15 seconds into the video it says, "Hey Zack, whats going on? This should be an invitation for exploration!" My jaw hit the floor! I'm sitting in my room in total shock wondering what just happened! If this wasn't confirmation, I have no idea what is! There is no denying that I was called out! I even reloaded the page just to see if it was my mind playing tricks on me!
God speaks in soooooo many ways but this had to be the clearest I've ever heard him talk! Usually I feel a stirring in my heart or gut, but never have I been called out by a promo video! I don't even know that much about the Circuit Riders and what they do, but I feel strongly feel like this is my next step after YWAM. I'm still waiting to hear the rest of the details, but as Brett and Karen Curtis say, I'm gonna say yes before I know all the details!
